歌曲背後的故事

教會為鼓勵弟兄姊妹在新冠疫情解封後，參加實體聚會，便舉辦了敬拜晚會。由綵排至完場，我唱了六小時的歌，近乎失聲。回家後，極為疲累的我坐在沙發上休息時，“新歌 一起唱首新歌；詩歌 一起唱首詩歌” 的曲詞同來，我不禁發笑對神說：“神呀，祢真是有幽默感！祢要我唱新歌？我很累，不想唱。”

雖然我沒有在意如何完成這首歌，但這兩句歌詞卻不時在耳邊響起，我覺得可以作為第一節。如是者幾個月後，我決心繼續寫下去。第一、二節的歌詞已填好，但總是覺得副歌怪怪的，於是問神：“究竟祢想副歌如何？我認為不動聽，不會寫曲譜。如此歌合祢心意，便給我副歌吧！”

一年後，神終於給我副歌，由“誰人愛惜我” 開始，我覺得跟第一、二節合拼得天衣無縫。未有副歌前，我不知如何為此歌名名，要是叫《新歌》，唱多幾次也成為舊歌，不是個好歌名。由於副歌歌詞中有開啟永恆，因而作為歌名，同時亦希望勾起聽眾的好奇心。

神叫我唱新歌，一首新歌便如此誕生了！

Story behind the song

“Begin Eternity”

Our church organized a worship night to encourage everyone to attend in-person events after the COVID-19 reopening. I sang continuously for six hours, from the rehearsal until the end of the function, and ended up almost losing my voice. Exhausted, I was resting on the sofa at home when a new song popped into my head with the lyrics "New song here we sing a new song, Praise song here we sing a praise song." I could not help but laugh and said, "God, You are so humorous! Do you want me to sing a new song? No way, I am too tired."

Although I did not initially pay much attention to finishing writing the song, these two verses kept ringing in my ears. Eventually, I realized they could be incorporated into verse one. A few months later, I decided to revisit what I had left. I managed to write the lyrics for verses one and two, yet not the right chorus. I asked God, "What do You want for the chorus? If I am not content with the chorus, I will not write up the music. If it were pleasing to You, please give me the chorus."

A year later, God gave me the chorus which begins with “Who would cherish me”. It goes perfectly with verses one and two. I had struggled to come up with a name for the song. If I named it “New Song”, it would not fit anymore after singing it several times. Since there is “To begin eternity” in the chorus, I chose “Begin Eternity” as its name to pique the audience’s curiosity.

In the end, I realized that God had asked me to sing a new song, and indeed, a new song had emerged!
